Marks + Channels (Work-in-Progress)

"Marks and Channels" is a choreographic work-in-progress (started Winter 2025) that translates the principles of marks and channels from the field of information design. In data visualization, marks (points, lines, areas) represent data, while channels (position, shape, color) determine how marks are perceived and related to each other. This choreographic project asks: how does movement function as a mark? And how do spatial, temporal, and qualitative shifts act as channels, structuring perception without imposing fixed counts? Instead of fixed phrasing, movement unfolds dynamically, responding to shifting proximities, evolving tensions, and emergent patterns. Dancers navigate an ever-changing system, inviting the audience to perceive movement as a dynamic visualization in space and time.
