In 2022, I was invited to be a part of L.A. Contemporary Dance Company's "Choreography Lab". Given the ongoing COVID-19 restrictions, I started playing with ways to interact without touch. In my hotel room, I was playing with objects including a chair, a lamp, and a pillow, before settling on a towel. I was drawn to the possibilies of folding, rolling, stacking, which led me to think about rituals of care in hygiene. Poise started off as a duet for the choreography lab, and then grew into a full contemporary ballet suite through another choreographic residency with the North Atlantic Ballet.
