With or Without is a contemporary balletic suite that will be created for BallettxSchwerin in the '24-'25 season. The developing work will be set to chamber arrangements of Felix Mendelssohn's Songs Without Words, highlighting music that was made to capture human experience where words themselves are found lacking or otherwise fail. A series of short interludes will feature text by poets Rainer Maria Rilke and Gertrude Kolmar, playing on figurative expression of intimacy, love, and human connection. The work will premiere in the summer of  2025.

As a guest choreographer with the company in Summer 2023, I created a balletic suite "OverWhelm" set to Fanny Mendelssohn's one and only string quartet (rehearsal videos above). The suite was a starting place for developing the movement vocabulary for With or Without.
